AI Buddy Voice turns the familiar AI Buddy intelligence into a hands-free spoken conversation. The browser handles recognition through its built-in speech interface, Gemini prepares the answer, and the server speaks it with a curated Piper or RHVoice voice.
The product is designed as a dedicated voice experience rather than a text chat with a microphone attached. It keeps the screen awake while active, remembers conversations, supports natural voice previews, and can be installed as its own PWA with a distinct app identity.
Gemini conversation
The same low-latency Gemini routing used by AI Buddy responds in the language of the conversation with speech-friendly answers.
Natural local voices
Only installed Piper neural and RHVoice natural voices are offered. Robotic eSpeak voices are intentionally excluded.
Hands-free PWA
A dedicated installable app, responsive animated voice interface, conversation history, and Screen Wake Lock support for longer sessions.
How it works
Start talking in four steps

Choose a language
Select one of the languages for which a quality local Piper or RHVoice voice is installed.

Preview a voice
Listen to the available natural voices and choose the one that should speak AI responses.

Allow microphone access
Tap Start voice session and allow the browser microphone permission when prompted.

Talk naturally
AI Buddy Voice listens, shows the transcript, asks Gemini, speaks the response, and resumes listening when hands-free mode is enabled.

Usage model
The same clear message-based plans as AI Buddy
Every logged-in user can test speech recognition, Gemini responses, and natural local speech.
For regular voice-assistant use, with a fair-use notice after 100 messages in one day.
For heavy personal use without a normal daily message cap. Local voice generation remains subject to safe server capacity.
Speech recognition depends on the Web Speech API available in supported Chromium-based browsers. A typed fallback remains available when recognition is unsupported.
Screen Wake Lock prevents automatic screen sleep while the app is visible and permission is available; browsers cannot prevent manual device locking or keep a hidden app awake.
No robotic eSpeak voices are displayed. If another local voice request is already being generated, the assistant reports that the natural voice engine is briefly busy.
