A little of what to expect

Start with studio test tiles and see what a brush mark, a second coat or an overlap can do. Jules introduces the six studio glazes, helps you read a fired sample and guides you through four small tests.

  1. Compare the studio’s fired glaze samples
  2. Brush and layer four small test tiles
  3. Record your combinations for a future piece

Ready when you arrive.

  • Four studio test tiles
  • Six studio glazes and brushes
  • Glaze firing and collection in 2–3 weeks

Tea, water and an apron are available. Wear closed shoes and clothes you do not mind getting clay on.

From clay to keepsake.

Your four tiles are glaze-fired by the studio and usually ready in 2–3 weeks. We keep the results labelled so you can compare your tests. Glaze appearance varies with shape, clay and application.

A useful next step.

This lab is for returning makers who have completed an introductory clay class. Test tiles are supplied; outside clay and unknown glazes cannot be used in the studio kiln.
