A fictional ceramics studio · Bookings, profiles and enquiries are local demonstrations

No experience required

Your first visit, made easy.

You can arrive with empty hands and no idea what you are going to make. We will begin with the basics.

Before you arrive

A few small things.

  • Wear closed shoes and clothes you do not mind getting a little clay on.
  • We supply aprons, but sleeves that roll up make life easier.
  • Shorter nails help at the wheel; remove rings or bring somewhere safe to keep them.
  • Aim to arrive ten minutes early for a drink and a quick introduction.
  • All workshops are designed for adults aged 18 and over.

In your first class

There is no need to be good at it.

Your tutor demonstrates a technique, then gives you time to try. The first attempt may lean, fold or look entirely different from your plan. That is a useful part of the process.

Ask for help whenever you need it. At the end, select the piece or pieces included in your workshop’s firing allowance and leave the kiln work with the studio.

Access & comfort

Make yourself comfortable.

The illustrative studio is planned around a ground-floor worktable and seated making. Wheel work involves bending over a low wheel; handbuilding can offer more flexible positions.

For a real venue, contact the studio before booking to discuss step-free access, seating, hearing, lighting or a quieter visit. This fictional venue makes no verified accessibility claim.

After you leave

Your piece has a little journey.

Drying, firing and glazing cannot be rushed. Allow 4–6 weeks for an introductory workshop piece and 2–3 weeks for a finished glaze test. We explain the collection process in class.
