01 / Well equipped
Your own wheel.
Six pottery wheels for six makers in an introductory throwing class. You have time to practise without waiting your turn.
Clay, light and a place to begin
A working studio built around a simple idea: you can be new at something and still feel completely at home.
The Ternwell approach
There is a lovely moment when a lump of clay begins to feel like a bowl. We make space for that moment, and for the wobble, the question and the second try that often come before it.
Ternwell is an illustrative ceramics studio for adults who want a little more making in their week. The small groups give a tutor time to demonstrate, watch and help without taking over your piece.
Here, useful things matter. A comfortable mug. A small bowl that fits in your palm. A dish that reminds you of a good afternoon.

02 / Well paced
Clear demonstrations, small groups and no expectation that you arrive with a finished idea. Trying is the whole point.
03 / Well considered
The listed workshop price includes studio clay, tools and the firing allowance described for that class. We explain what happens next.
From your hands to your shelf
Wet clay needs to dry slowly. It is then fired, glazed and fired again. Introductory class pieces are generally ready in 4–6 weeks; glaze tests usually take 2–3 weeks.
The studio handles the kiln work. Handmade objects can crack, warp or change in firing, and a final piece is never guaranteed. Your tutor explains the process before you leave.
